On July 20, former US Vice President candidate Winona LaDuke was arrested by authorities in Wadena County, Minnesota. Several outlets reported LaDuke’s participation in a group assembly protesting a natural gas pipeline running through the northern corridor of Minnesota.
LaDuke, a graduate of Harvard University, was unfairly held for three (3) days at the Wadena County Jail on several trumped up gross misdemeanor “harassment” charges in connection with “water protection” protests in front of the Shell River.
LaDuke is a known environmental activist and often travels University circuits to speak about water rights where she is often labeled an “American hero”. LaDuke attracts a cult like following for her leadership on environmental issues and has been a sought after campus speaker for years. Numerous attorneys and law enforcement personal have expressed disbelief at the outrageous severity of the charges directed at LaDuke with respect to her clear non-violent peaceful protest.
Similarly, LaDuke expressed anger and frustration on Facebook following her release from the Wadena County Jail. Specifically, LaDuke called out Enbridge for continuing to build a pipeline that damages Minnesota water.
